Standing Against the Infinite

"Standing Against the Infinite" from Cosmic Odyssey #4 (DC, 1988) by Jim Starlin, Mike Mignola and Carlos Garzon
I am NOT a fan of Jim Starlin's later (or perhaps just his DC) work, and Cosmic Odyssey had a tripping-balls plot, contradictions with Fourth World mythology, and terrible characterization, but damn, Mike Mignola artwork! So pretty.

  1. This story reads better as a trade. I found a cheap copy of the trade after I'd given away the individual issues, might have been the first time I understood the wait for the trade theory when it came to mini-series.

  2. I just read this for the first time this week. I rather liked it. Mignola's storytelling was immaculate and while I sometimes take Starlin cosmic stories with a grain of salt, it went down smooth this time. It's not consistent with Kirby's Fourth World all that much, but it was internally consistent at least.
